IANAE (I Am Not An Economist) But I do know a thing or two about the Barbadian economy.
First thing: Our economy is best described as a small open economy.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away... the Barbados economy was, at different times, dependent on tobacco, then sugar and manufacturing.
Third thing: Modern day Barbados is heavily dependent on the tourism and construction sectors, especially in terms of generating foreign exchange with which we use to pay for our imports (we import almost everything).
Fourth thing: Some people would add the financial services and/or offshore business sector to the Third thing. I wouldn't contest this, as they more than likely know what they are talking about. I think.
Final thing: Economics is sometimes referred to as the dismal science. So let's stop here. Why don't you contact your local travel agent and visit Barbados for some well deserved rest and relaxation, hmmm?
No you say? Fine. Below is a small list of sources of economic information on Barbados: B'dos Government: Division of Economic Affairs Wikipedia: Economy of Barbados
